Drop Stitch Cowl
Was trying for a open and airy effect, using chunky yarn.
I got the effect I was looking for. The cowl has a nice soft
feel to it when worn as a double wrap, very comfortable.
Found that I like knitting with Clover brand circular needles,
as they do not hurt my hands like some other brands.
Skill level: Easy
Needle Size: #15 circular 29" - Clover brand
Yarn: Lion Brand Homespun - 396 Fiesta
Stitches used: Knit, Pearl, Drop Stitch
Finished length: 44" circumference
Finished width: 10" (depending on yarn used)
Cast on 83 stitches or odd number of your choice.
Row 1: Knit entire row
*Row 2 & 3: Knit 1/Pearl 1, entire round
Row 4: Knit entire row
Row 5: Knit 1, wrap twice around the needle, repeat around
Row 6: Knit entire row, dropping wraps off your needle
* repeat rows 2 thru 6, three times you should have
4 drop rows in total.
to finish repeat rows 2 thru 4 and bind off.
I decided that the cast off on this was not stretchy enough, so I went looking for one that was. I found this lovely method of casting off that solved my problem and makes one edge longer, so the scarf drapes better.

Lovely cowl, looking forward to it. I love homespun. Question before I begin. I assume that after cast on I join the stitches into a round. Then, an odd number of stitches means that I finish row 2 with a knit. Then do I knit the first stitch of row 3, continuing with PKPK.. after that?
ReplyDeleteBeen a while since I wrote this out. I should have written it as 82 working stitches, with the 83rd stitch used in the join. Cast on 83, slip and then knit 2 together to start round.
ReplyDeleteAny chance the errors in the pattern will be corrected? It would be beneficial to have the correct pattern and without the spelling mistakes.
