Open Mesh Beanie

The girls have been asking to do a hat. So in keeping with their
growing skills I have put together this Open Mesh Beanie.

Skill level:         Intermediate
Hook Size:        I
Yarn:                 Red Heart, worsted, medium, #4
Stitches Used:   Chain, Slip stitch, Single crochet, Double crochet


Open Mesh Beanie

Row 0:    Ch 5, sl st in 1st ch to join rnd.

Row 1:   Ch 4, *dc, ch 1, repeat * - 8 times into center,

Row 2
 

               sl st to top of beg ch, sl st in next ch 1 sp.
               You will have 9 dc.

Row 2:    Ch 4, ch 1, dc in same sp, ch 1,
                *dc, ch 1, dc, ch 1, in next sp; rep from * 7 times more,
                sl st in top of beg ch, sl st in next ch-1 sp.
               You will have 18 dc.

Row 3:    Ch 4, ch 1, dc,ch 1, in same sp; dc, ch 1 in next ch-1 sp;
                 *dc, ch1, dc, ch 1 in same sp, dc, ch 1, in next sp,
                repeat* 7 times more, sl st in top of beg ch,

                sl st in next ch-1 sp -- 27 dc.


Row 3

Row 4:    Ch 4, ch 1, dc, ch 1, in same sp; dc, ch 1, in next 2 sp;

                *dc, ch 1, dc, ch 1, in same sp; dc, ch 1, in next 2 sp;
                repeat* 7 times more, sl st in top of beg ch,
                sl st in next ch-1 sp -- 36 dc.

Stop increasing here for 16 - 20 inch size and proceed to
Mesh Stitch.

Row 5:   Ch 4, ch 1, dc, ch 1 in same sp; dc, ch 1, in next 3 sp;
               *dc, ch 1, dc, ch 1 in same sp; dc, ch 1, in next 3 sp;
                repeat* 7 times more, sl st in top of beg ch,
                sl st in next ch-1 sp-- 45 dc.


Row 4

Stop increasing here for 20 -24 inch size and proceed to
Mesh Stitch.


Mesh Stitch:    Ch 4, *dc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1; rep from *

                          to end of rnd, sl st in top of beg ch,

                          sl st in next ch-1 sp -- 36 (45) dc.


*Repeat mesh stitch until hat measures desired length. 

Row 5

   For an adult head approx. 6 more rows.



Brim

Row 1:   Ch 1, sc in next ch, *sc in next ch-1 sp, repeat*,
               sl st in 1st ch to join row.


Row 2-3: Repeat Brim Row 1.

To finish fasten off row and hide ends
